Monopoly Go

BulbThis is an independent case study conducted by Kaedim and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or created for Scopely.

OVERVIEW

Monopoly GO! updates nearly daily to serve its 10M+ players, creating nonstop demand for fast 3D asset production and a scalable 3D asset pipeline for games. Traditional 3D pipelines struggle to keep up.

To showcase the speedup and cost savings that could be achieved by a hybrid AI x artist pipeline for fast-moving, live-service games, Kaedim conducted a case study inspired by Monopoly GO!’s rapid update cadence. We re-created assets from the game using the publicly available 2D concept art.

These assets were recreated using Kaedim’s AI-powered 3D pipeline paired with expert artist oversight.

With this speedup, studios can:

  • Produce more 3D content without hiring additional staff during peak demand,
  • Lower production costs, and
  • Maintain a continuous flow of production-ready models required for fast, frequent updates.

With Kaedim, studios gain a scalable, reliable 3D asset pipeline built for the realities of modern live-service games.

Style Brief

  • Playful Stylized Realism

Grounded in real-world materials but expressed through chunky proportions, softened forms, and bold, readable silhouettes that match Monopoly GO!'s toy-like aesthetic.

  • Intentional Simplification

Micro-detail, noise, and surface variation are minimized to maintain clarity on mobile screens. Materials feel clean, polished, and slightly exaggerated rather than photorealistic.

  • Story-Driven Charm

Wear, scratches, and dirt are optional and used sparingly — applied only when needed to reinforce event themes or narrative context, never to add grit or realism.

  • Controlled Color & Value

Bright, saturated palettes with carefully managed albedo values. Textures prioritize readability and playful contrast over accuracy. Plastic-like finishes and glossy coatings are common, supporting the "miniature board-game world" feel.

Why this matters for live-service teams

To understand the real-world impact of the 78.5 hours saved per asset, we compared the market-average production times and hourly artist rates to the actual time Kaedim spent creating the three assets in this study.

BulbKaedim averages include revision time

Traditionally, each stage of 3D asset production—geometry generation, mesh optimization, UV unwrapping, texturing, and revisions—takes about one full day of turnaround time. With Kaedim, these same stages are completed in a fraction of a day, often within a few hours or less.

Across all stages shown, this results in 2× to 6× speedups, with an overall average of 4× faster total turnaround. These improvements come from Kaedim’s automation in reconstruction, UVs, texturing, and revision matching, accelerating what would normally take multiple days into a much shorter timeline. On top of this per-asset speedup, Kaedim can process large batches of assets in parallel, further increasing throughput and compressing production schedules compared to traditional outsourcing teams.
